Katsucon 2022 Cosplay Highlights Cosplay Music Video CMV 8K HDR

After a two year delay, Katsucon returned to the Gaylord National. Attendance was noticeably reduced compared to previous years, but it was actually nice to be able to move around and find filming locations and not feel squeezed for space. I treated this convention as part vacation and part opportunity to make another cosplay music video.

While I would usually film 40-80 people at a convention like this I purposefully limited myself so I wouldn’t have so much footage. I’ve been too distracted with other things and having a lot of footage would only delay the release my video. I filmed just 29 people this time around and I’m able to release just a week after the event.

I’m pretty happy with the footage I got overall. I was filming with some new lenses and was happy with how they performed. I should say they are new-to-me vintage lenses from the 70’s and 80’s – Canon FD. Some of them have skyrocketed in price, but I was able to get my hands on them. I still need to do some more filming with them before I can form a strong opinion. The 24mm f1.4 L is definitely a nice lens. I actually used it for every shot in this video but two. I love the wide angle perspective and the flaring is very nice.

This was filmed entirely with my Z CAM E2-F6 on a shoulder rig that I sometimes handheld (learn more about it here: https://youtu.be/7lJZ9hDlmUw). I still prefer this setup when working with vintage lenses. It allows me full control over the focus and having an electronic viewfinder gives me a good perspective on my framing. For some shots it would be nice to have a gimbal to move around the subject, but that would be a completely different camera setup with autofocus lenses and I’m not very keen on that. I did that for a a few years back in 2016-2018 with a Panasonic GH5 and I just don’t want to go back to it.

Thanks to everyone who filmed with me. I’ll add their instagram accounts in the pinned comment. I’ll also add them in an article on my website once I get around to that. I still have some articles to write for previous conventions. https://flannel.ninja

I had the opportunity to do some extended shooting with @littlelionheart.cosplay and @pistachiogirl in their Umbrella Academy cosplays. It felt like we were making a mini-episode and it was a good experience. I also broke apart the Nekopara group since I had so many shots of them.

This video is graded in HDR! This amazing technology produces more vivid color and luminance, but might not be compatible with your display. If something looks odd, please try a different browser or device. The YouTube app on your mobile phone is probably the best way to watch: https://geni.us/cEx73jD
