Les meurtres de Burke et Hare semblent à première vue anecdotiques; ils s’inscrivent pourtant dans la continuité d’un phénomène qui fait rage dans l’Europe du 19e siècle : le bodysnatching, qui consiste à déterrer des cadavres fraichement inhumés pour ensuite les vendre aux écoles de médecine.
