Colossalcon Texas in three words: it was awesome! It was the most fun I’ve had at a convention since… well, ColossalCon in June 😅. The attendees were great and the resort is beautiful. For its first year there was a really great turnout and I can only imagine what next year will be like. I heard one person predict that it will eventually outgrow ColossalCon in Ohio and I can believe it.
This video is Part 1. Keep an eye out for Part 2!
I have to give a big thank you to ColossalCon Texas staff and all of the cosplayers and photographers I met. The staff generously granted me a press pass for the inaugural event, which I truly appreciate. I had the opportunity to meet and hang out with some really great photographers. Some of them I knew previously and others I didn’t. Getting to know fellow photogs is really one of the most enjoyable aspects of going to conventions. We get to talk shop and help each other out. Being into cameras is kind of like speaking the same language. Sharing our common interests creates a real camaraderie and I look forward to seeing them again.
And of course I have to thank the cosplayers. Without you I wouldn’t be doing this at all. Everyone I met at ColossalCon Texas was in a good mood and having a fun time. I was blown away by the cosplayers. There was, of course, a lot of swimwear cosplay and I can tell that people were there to be seen. Me and many others were happy to oblige 😄. If you posed in front of my camera, you made it into this video or Part 2. Thank you for allowing me to film you!

This video was recorded in 8K raw with the Canon R5 and in 6K ProRes 422 with the Z CAM E2-F6. Focus was pulled manually by hand and with the Tilta Nucleus Nano. The Canon R5 had the 50mm f0.95 Dream lens attached pretty much the whole time. I should probably make a video about that lens on my other YT channel. The Z CAM had a number of various vintage lenses attached – Nikon 24, 35, and 85mm, and the Helios 44-2. Nothing newer than 1975 probably 😀.
